Biography
From Istanbul to Helsinki and Boston
Prof. Dr. Serdar Baki Albayrak is a neurosurgeon and Full Professor of Neurosurgery in Istanbul. He qualified in medicine at Marmara University in 1998. Next, he completed his neurosurgery residency at Istanbul University in 2004.
After his residency, he also trained abroad in two clinical fellowships. He first worked at the University of Helsinki in Finland. He then trained at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, with a focus on brain tumors.
Today he operates on the brain and spine, and also on peripheral nerves. His main fields, however, are brain tumors and cerebrovascular surgery. He also performs epilepsy surgery and functional neurosurgery, such as deep brain stimulation.
In more than 27 years, he has performed over 5,000 operations. So far, patients from 64 countries have come to Istanbul for his care. In addition, his 33 publications appear further down this page, each linked to the original record.

Brain and skull base tumors Tumor surgery
Gliomas such as glioblastoma, meningiomas, metastases and skull base tumors, for example tumors near the pituitary gland.
Trigeminal neuralgia and facial pain Cranial nerves
Microvascular decompression (MVD) for trigeminal neuralgia, and also surgery for other facial pain and spasms.

Aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), but also arteriovenous fistulas and cavernomas.

First, selective amygdalohippocampectomy and vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) for epilepsy. He also performs deep brain stimulation, spinal cord stimulation for pain and spasticity surgery, such as selective dorsal rhizotomy.

Where and how Prof. Albayrak sees patients
Prof. Albayrak sees patients at his clinic in Terrace Fulya Center, Teşvikiye, Şişli, Istanbul. Every patient first meets him in person for an examination.
So bring your MRI and CT scans on a disc or USB drive, and the written reports. He then explains the diagnosis, the options and the plan.
